Last Friday we were honoured to be a part of Matty Bovan's Autumn / Winter 2021 Odyssey show.
A collection that took inspiration from the power of the sea and its elemental and destructive nature. A three-part story, based around a set of characters at sea, crossing time spans, ghosts from different eras colliding under the waves.
In Matty's words “‘Odyssey’ is ultimately about humanity’s constant survival against external forces, and a battle with reality. The characters are swept away in a cycle of extreme events, and whether this cycle ever ends or just continues, is unknown.”
Matty and Hiut share many of the same values of being low impact and only using sustainable fabrics. For Odyssey, we used our denim waste from past short runs.
This collaboration was something new for us. Completely different. Not your classic 5-pocket jean. A design we are not used to here in the factory. But, we had fun. Lots of it.
A few zoom calls to discuss how the pattern should look. Some adaptations from our side. Bespoke Matty Bovan leather patch combined with our signature Hiut rivets and buttons - the details matter.
Three completely unique jeans (which also unbutton to turn into a skirt)
