Japanese Black Light Weight Stretch Selvedge.

Easy To Wear. Hard To Weave.

Kuroki has spent years mastering how to make a stretch selvedge on a shuttle loom.

How they do it remains a secret, but the result is there for us all to see.

One of the finest stretch selvedges that money can buy.

Yup, stretch selvedge is easier to wear than to make.

Details Matter. Always.

Why we love the Light Weight Stretch Selvedge.

  • Because they can be worn 365 days a year.

Want to wear jeans throughout the summer?

On a long flight?

On a road trip?

Walking through the city or on a photoshoot?

We've even climbed mountains in them.

  • Easy to love.

If you travel a lot, if you're active, then that little bit of stretch sure makes a big difference.

Especially throughout the summer.

And they don’t need breaking in either.

That makes life a little easier.

  • Stretch Selvedge. Easy To Wear. Hard To Weave.

The magic of this stretch selvedge is that you get the authentic selvedge, but it is much easier to wear. And that alone explains why great stretch selvedge is much sought after.

Interestingly, weaving stretch denim on a 1920's shuttle loom is far from easy.

You have to remember that it is woven on a loom that was used 50 years before stretch jeans were invented.

So to perfect a stretch selvedge, they had to make some alterations to the looms.

It took a lot of learning.

And a lot of tweaking.

Exactly what those changes were, well, they are not willing to share that information.

  • Made by Mavericks.
Kuroki Mill, is located in the textile rich area of Okayama, Japan.

Okayama is seen as the mecca for sourcing high quality denim.

Denim is at the heart of the community.

Even the streets are painted with a redline selvedge.

Geeky to Know.

The magic of stretch selvedge is that you get the authentic look of selvedge, but it is much easier to wear.

And that alone explains why great stretch selvedge is much sought after.

Interestingly, to weave stretch denim on a 1920's shuttle loom is far from easy.

And, the truth is, not many mills can do it.

There’s a lot more to a good shuttle-loomed fabric than the selvedge line at the end.

And you have to remember that it is woven on a shuttle loom that was used 50 years before stretch jeans were invented.

So now the old shuttle looms that create the selvedge denim much more slowly, and in smaller quantities can now do a great stretch denim too.

As good as the looms are, the master's human eye is still needed to make a perfect denim.
