The Gwilym - Getting to know him

The Next Chapter of The Hack
Some jeans become favourites because they surprise you.
Others become favourites because they simply work, every single time.
For thirteen years, The Hack was the fit people came back to. The one that worked without trying. The kind of jean that slips easily into daily life without asking much from you. Familiar from the first wear, comfortable from the second, and dependable long after that.
When it came time to revisit it, we didn't want to change what people loved, we wanted to listen to what they'd been telling us for years.
That’s the Gwilym. Refined, not reinvented.

The Shape
The Gwilym is a slim straight fit.
Closer through the leg, but not tight. Structured enough to feel put together, relaxed enough to wear every day. That balance is important.
Too slim, and a jean can start to feel restrictive. Too loose, and it loses the simplicity that makes a shape easy to live with. The Gwilym sits between those two points. Neat without feeling forced.
The mid rise keeps it comfortable through the waist, while the straight line through the lower leg allows it to pair easily with almost anything.

Who It’s For
The Gwilym is for the man who wants one pair to do most things well.
If you’ve always worn slimmer jeans, this will feel familiar. But there’s a little more ease through it now. More comfort through the top block, more movement through the leg, without losing the shape people come to this fit for.
It’s the reliable pair. Not trying too hard, just balanced properly.

When You Wear It
The Gwilym tends to become part of the routine quite quickly.
It’s the pair thrown on early in the morning without much thought. Worn through work, weekends, travelling, dinners, long drives, everyday moments.
That’s part of its strength.
It doesn’t demand a certain way of dressing. It adapts to whatever the day looks like. Trainers, boots, shirts, knitwear - it settles easily alongside them rather than competing for attention.
A dependable shape you stop thinking about once it’s on.

Why It Works
The Gwilym wasn’t designed to reinvent anything, it was designed to refine a fit people already loved.
Small pattern adjustments have made it more comfortable through the rise and thigh, while keeping the overall shape clean and familiar. The rise has increased slightly, the pockets are deeper, and the pocket opening has been refined to feel easier in use throughout the day.
Enough has changed to improve it, but not so much that it stops feeling like the fit people came back to year after year.
That’s often the hardest thing to get right - knowing what to change, and what to leave alone.

I have 2 pairs of the Hack that I purchased 5 years apart. After talking to the wonderful customer service queen, Lex she convinced me to wait for the Gwilym. I just ordered my first pair. Looking forward to it

Happily rotating 4+1 pairs Hacks so rilly don’t need any more . . . and yet and yet . . . what did need ever have anything to do with new threads eh!
Would like to see side by side pics same model in Gwilym and Hack side by side? Looking like skinnier legs with sorta reverse Brazilian butt lift in back with in new pics?
Never had any inclination to look beyond Hack for other recent New-Looks which frankly hard to judge different looks on similarly shaped models
As ever keep up the good work and all best to Jean x

I tried Hack right back when buying my first pair but ended up with the SlimR. How do these compare to that cut?

@Darren – The new Gwilym, slim-straight fit is roomier in the thighs and has a softer taper from the knee down compared to the SlimR. The Gwilym also has a 2cm higher rise. The SlimR (our slimmest fit) tapers from the waist to the hem. FYI, we will be releasing the updated SlimR next month. It’s called the Finn.
